Drafting Board: The Electoral College

Should the U.S. president be elected by the Electoral College or the national popular vote? It turns out this argument has been going on for a long time – all the way back to the Founding Fathers! Now you can engage in an evidence-based evaluation of the issue. And in the end, you will have to write a effective argument about how our electoral system should work!

The Electoral College

Now that you have had a little taste of how the Electoral process works for presidential candidates, let's take a closer look.  Today, you will have a hand-out (see link below) about the Electoral College.
The Founding Fathers were not too sure that the common man would be able to select the best candidate for the job.  As a result, we have a process in which we choose electors at the state level to choose the president of the United States.  Some people feel the Electoral College is out dated, and should be replaced with the popular vote.
